The question
Long running intelligence strengthened by challenge
We wanted to know whether a long running programme could keep adapting, recover useful operation after failure, and become more trustworthy specifically by challenging its own strongest results. The last of those is the one nobody enjoys.
Research journey
How the work unfolded
EOS sustained autonomous activity while adapting, preserved prior progress and retained an extensive trail of evidence. Inside its stated boundary this continued without a comparable loss of predictive performance.
Across a defined body of work it selected correct outcomes, extended earlier success, and declined the unsupported cases rather than forcing a result out of them.
One live area produced nothing at all to begin with. After repair it started producing useful results, and continued review separated a notably stable finding from the ones that were conditional or fragile.
We kept attacking positive results on purpose. Conclusions that did not survive stronger scrutiny were removed, and an earlier broad description was replaced by the narrower one the evidence supported.

What changed the direction
The turn was restoring useful operation in an area that had produced nothing, then having later review show that one result was notably stable while the others stayed conditional. That is where we could see which confidence had actually been earned.
